Brooksville delegates who attended the American Legion Department of Florida first district conference held in St. Petersburg Sunday were Charles S. Ashbrook, local commander, Mrs. Ashbrook, their son Charles, Jr., Mrs. B. E. Lawton, president of the Legion auxiliary, Miss Adelaide de Lazanne, Mrs. S. R. Collins, and Mrs. John Bassett.
The local delegates arrived in time for the Legion and Auxiliary luncheon, where distinguished guests were introduced, including the state commander, the state auxiliary president, and other state officers.
The state commander urged all Legion and Auxiliary members to go home from the conference with the idea of personal obligation as to membership and the work to be carried on in the two organizations. Members were encouraged to be interested as individuals in seeking new members and in "selling" the American Legion to all who are eligible to join. He asked that a special effort be made to have the 1939 dues in not later than August 15. The motto now is to take a good record to the National Convention in Los Angeles in September.
This was the first district conference since the state convention, and drew a large attendance, said those who attended from Brooksville.
