British Novelist Undergoes Serious Abdominal Surgery
PARIS, April 1 (AP)—William J. Locke, British novelist, who has charged a generation of readers with his romantic tales, underwent a serious abdominal operation today, and tonight was making a stubborn fight for life. His doctors said his condition was "extremely critical."
The operation, described as "very severe" was said to have been successful, but left him very weak. A crisis was expected to come early tomorrow, and the doctors said the chances were against his recovery.
