Full Text

Extract of a letter from a gentleman at Natchez, dated February 26, to his friend in Fredericksburg.

"Claiborne, who I think is personally known to you is the governor of this territory, and was sent on, it is believed, to quiet the flame excited by governor Sargent's administration; if such was the end, he has fallen far short of attaining it. he has (for himself and his patrons unfortunately) taken up an obscure and unpopular course--influential party as the organs of the public will, and has acted so far upon their advice as to lose the confidence in a great degree of the men of talents, respectability and prominent character---How the farce is to end I will not hazard a prediction."
