OUSTED A MORMON ELDER.

Here is an example of churchanity too frequently miscalled christianity. The ladies of the Woman's Home Missionary society of the Methodist Episcopal church at Philadelphia were holding their annual gathering and were to be addressed by Dr. Sarah J. Elliott, formerly a medical missionary among the Mormons. While Dr. Elliott was delivering her speech against Mormonism, a middle aged man edged his way to the front, and handed to Dr. Elliott his card, which identified him as a Mormon Elder on a Mission to Pennsylvania. He asked the privilege of speaking, and was immediately ejected from the church, amid a wild uproar, and cries of "Put him out."

On the same evening in the City of Duluth, two Salvation Army girls entered a Bowery saloon selling the Army paper. They noticed a rather respectable looking man at the bar, in a semi-intoxicated condition. One of the lassies approached him, and in the most truly christian manner pleaded with him to abandon his present habits.

While she was beseeching him it could be seen that he was undergoing a strain, and her loving way attracted all those in the bar room about her.

Finally the inner man showed itself and as he shook the good girl's hand, he said: "Thank you. with the help of God. I'll be a better man."

He quit the place immediately, and when the army girls were leaving the saloonkeeper said: "God bless, you girls, you've done some good tonight."

Here are two stories. One gets wide publicity in the newspapers, and the other would perhaps never have been put in print were it not within our personal notice. Which of the two acts appeals to us as being truly christian?

Which do you think would receive the praise and glory of Him, who we all worship and from whom all churches get their authority for existence?
