Full Text

It is truly melancholy to observe the issue of the
late bloody war between Sweden and Russia. The
second article of the treaty of peace declares that
the "limits and frontiers shall on each side continue
as they were before the rupture, or the beginning of
the present war."

Alas! why then all that dreadful carnage which has for several years filled our
papers? It has ended in nothing being gained by
either side. The great Duke of Sully declared 200
years ago, that this would be the case in all future
European wars, and yet the nations of Europe continue
to make war upon each other --or rather they
continue to fight national duels.
