WOMAN.

A writer in a late Review, speaking of the Roman women, and their influence during the existence of the kingdom, says:—"From the time of the Sabines to Theodora's conquest of Justinian, women seem to have been at the bottom of almost all the memorable events of Roman history. Lucretia, Virginia, Veturia, Fabia, the wife of Licinius, who became at her instigation the First Plebeian Consul, are illustrious examples of this: and whatever may be the changes of manners or opinions, as Hume has well remarked, all nations, with one accord, point, for the ideal of a virtuous matron, to the daughter of Scipio, and the mother of Gracchi." Who, then, will doubt the influence of woman.
