THE
GREAT

AT
HOLYHEAD,
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON.
Advance in Consols---Commercial Intelligence.
[BY THE SOUTHERN LINE.]
FATHER POINT (Canada), Oct. 23.-The steamship Anglo-Saxon, Captain Borland, passed this point to-day on her way to Quebec, and a summary of her news was brought ashore by the newsboat of the Associated Press.
The Anglo-Saxon left Liverpool on Wednesday, the 12th instant. Her advices are, therefore, four days later than those received by the Europa at Halifax and Boston.
LIVERPOOL, Oct. 12.-The sales of Cotton for the three business days since the sailing of the Europa amount to 28,000 bales, of which speculators took 2500 and exporters 6000 bales.
The market generally closed firm with an improved demand, but no actual advance on the middling and lower grades.
Fair and middling qualities have improved.
Some authorities report an advance of 1-8d on Fair and Middling qualities.
LONDON, Oct. 12.-The Funds have much improved in tone since the departure of the Europa, and an advance of fully 1% has been attained. Consols for money closed at 95 1/2 to 96.
LIVERPOOL, Oct. 12. The advices from Manchester continue to be of an unfavorable character, owing in a measure to the lack of orders for China, growing out of the re-opening of hostilities. The market was dull and a decline of fully 6d had been submitted to for some kinds of yarns.
The Liverpool Breadstuffs market generally closed firm, and all qualities had slightly advanced. The advance was caused chiefly by the advices from America, brought by the last steamer from New York.
The Provision market closed quiet, without quotable change in prices.
The general and political news by the Anglo-Saxon is not of an important character.
The latest advices from Zurich represent that the Conference was making very little progress.
The steamship Great Eastern sailed from Portland on the 8th, and had reached Holyhead. Her performance was successful and satisfactory, but the passage was made only at a moderate rate of speed. It is considered very doubtful whether she leaves England for the United States this season.
