Two steamers are in port today but not a pound of freight, including needed perishables, had been discharged up to 3 o'clock this afternoon.
In Juneau it is said the Longshoremen are asking $1.72½ cents an hour and $2.59 for overtime.
Steamship officials are powerless to act it is said, also the unions, pending instructions from Seattle.
The local longshoremen assert Alaskan unions are not bound by the recent coast agreement.
An Associated Press dispatch from Seattle says shipping officials there said last night they understood the ports of Ketchikan, Juneau, Seward, Cordova and Sitka in Alaska were involved in a strike by the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union (CIO), which has about 400 Alaska members.
They said six Seattle vessels were delayed in the Alaskan ports.
Steve Glumaz, the Union's northwest representative, said he had no details, but the issues were "violations of contract by the employers in refusing to pay wage increases and retroactive pay ordered by the War Labor Board."
