Members of the Longwood College English Department attended the annual regional meeting of the College English Association held at Sweet Briar College on Saturday, November 14.
They were Mrs. Mildred Davis, Miss Lucille Jennings, Miss Nancy Foster, Miss Mary Nichols, Mrs. Marvin Schlege and Richard Mecker.
Miss Nichols is Secretary-treasurer of the association, of which other officers are Prof. Mary Vincent Long of Hollins College, president, and Justus C. Drake of Wake Forest College, vice-president.
Between 75 and 100 members of the association, including teachers from Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina, heard an address by Mark Van Doren, distinguished author of many books including critical studies and poetry and Pulitzer Prize winner for Poetry in 1939.
Other speakers were Prof. Lewis F. Ball, University of Richmond, Charles E. Ward, Duke University, and Richard Walser, North Carolina State College.
