SHOCKS LASTED HOUR AND A HALF: EVERYTHING BADLY SHAKEN, NO DAMAGE
Hilo, Hawaii, Oct. 1 (AP)—Seismic activity which has rocked the island of Hawaii for the past 12 days and is declared to be the forerunner of eruptions of one or more of the island's volcanoes, shifted to the western slope where 480 quakes have been recorded in the past 24 hours.
At Holualoa between Hualalai and the volcano Mauna Loa, the heaviest trembler was felt since the activity began on September 19. Shocks starting just before noon lasted an hour and a half and everything in the district was badly shaken but no great damage has been reported.
