ROBBERY OF THE MAIL.
Post-Office, Charleston, December 4, 1801.
The Postmaster is extremely sorry to announce a robbery that has been committed upon the northern mail which left Charleston on Wednesday the 2d. inst.
A respectable gentleman who arrived in town this afternoon, informs that he met the post-rider at Monk's Corner, who told him that on Wednesday night he was met by four negroes, who forcibly took away the mail.
The Postmaster has thought it necessary to give the earliest intelligence of the robbery, in order that those persons who may have sent money or bills by the post may take proper steps to have payment stopped of the bills forwarded.
