NEW-YORK, July 15.

Extract of a letter from captain Boit, of the sloop General Greene, to his owner in this city, dated Liverpool, Nova-Scotia, July 5, 1800.

“I have only time to inform you that I arrived here in the sloop General Greene, about 4 hours since, sent in by the British privateer Rover, belonging here. I was captured in lat. 31, N. long. 60, W. from London—all my crew detained on board the privateer, and have been from the time we were first taken, which is ten days ago. On what pretence the vessel is sent in, God only knows; all that I have been able to learn is that she is Dutch property. The day after I was captured they broke out the cargo, and you can easily judge of the damages it has sustained by a set of privateersmen, breaking open and cutting the bales and packages of goods. As yet I have not been permitted to go on shore, as soon as I am, shall make my regular protest, and embrace the first opportunity to get to Halifax, in order to procure the best advice for further proceedings.”
