Full Text
Whig Spirit. The partisans of Whiggery have been declaring around town that the Whig members in the Legislature, sustained themselves with 'becoming spirit' on Saturday. Nobody can deny this statement. Gin and Brandy, very becoming spirit, were dispensed in copious libations to the Whigs during the evening, and no doubt sustained those 'solid men of Boston' in their successful attempt to stifle the voice of the minority, and trample on all parliamentary precedents and rules.
When the Whigs introduced liquor as an electioneering element, into their canvassing in this city, we did not apprehend that it would, thus soon, be brought by them into the legislation of the State.
But, the first step taken, there is never any knowing where a thing will stop.
