Fifth Negro
Applies At Tech

It was reliably reported to the Atlanta Inquirer this week that a fifth Negro youth has applied for entry at Georgia Tech.

While the other four Negro applicants are all students at Turner High School, the fifth youth is an honor graduate whose high school work was done at Washington High.

Reputedly highly gifted in mathematics, the young man constructed a computer while still in high school which won him a trip to Hartford, Connecticut.

The other four boys, Ralph Long Jr., 16, Homer Clide McEwen, 18, Lord Greene, 17, and Wendell Johnson, 16, are active in extra-curricular activity at Turner besides possessing high scholastic averages.

The youthful foursome includes three varsity tennis stars, one three letter athlete (tennis, football, basketball), and one two letter man (tennis and football).

Three of the boys graduated from Oglethorpe Elementary School, and the fourth attended Our Lady of Lourdes. The group includes two editors of the Turner High Green Light, the school newspaper, two members of the school's drama club, and an official in the city-wide student council.

All are members of the Rigal Twenty social club.
