Full Text

Captain M. J. Sheridan.—This capable officer and excellent man having resigned his position in the army, has returned to his home in Indiana.

For nearly a year past, Capt. Sheridan occupied the position of Provost Marshal at this place, the delicate and responsible duties of which he discharged in a manner which spoke volumes in his favor as a conscientious and impartial functionary.

It affords us pleasure, now that he has gone from among us and our remarks cannot be taken as prompted by a desire to praise him to his face, to bear our humble testimony as above, to his personal and official worth.

Should he ever have occasion to re-visit our city he will not fail to meet with that friendly welcome among our citizens which will go to prove that their esteem and appreciation of him are as enduring as the principles of honor which characterize the true gentleman and soldier.
