Full Text

The races in New-York seem to have eclipsed in the public mind, the operations of the armies of Spain & France & to have risen into higher interest than the secret & perplexing movements of the English cabinet. The gambling on both sides of the water has its excitement. The French, rode by Alexander, have entered for a political race, but they will not take the sweep stakes with half the ease that Eclipse touched the $40,000. I heartily wish that the rider may be thrown and the Bourbon filly clean distanced. After all we suspect it will end in a scrub race, even if there should be no bolting.
