By a gentleman from Halifax, in North Carolina, we are informed that general Clinton, in attempting to come into Charlestown harbour, the 17th of last month, was overtaken by a violent storm, which drove ashore a 36 gun frigate, and 8 transports with soldiers, who it is said were chiefly lost. He had this intelligence from an officer from Cape Fear, who said that general Moore had received it by express; in consequence of which, four regiments under marching orders for Charlestown, and col. Muhlenburg's Virginia battalion, had been countermanded.
