ARCHBISHOP
PURCELL'S
DEBTEDNESS $3,600,000

CINCINNATI, Feb. 23.—The financial troubles of archbishop Purcell appear to increase by later developments. The trustees appointed some time ago to receive and audit the claims against him decline to make public a statement of amount already filed, but at a meeting of the clergy, at which the bishop presided, he stated that claims have already been filed amounting to $3,600,000. All schemes for his relief apparently failed, and an effort will be made by a committee of Roman Catholic clergymen to have the State law modified so that a lottery scheme may be inaugurated for his benefit. There is, however, considered extremely doubtful in Ohio.
