At 15 Years of Age the Post of Secretary of State for the Marine Department, which was formerly held by the late Count de Pontchartrain, his Father, was granted him by the Regent of France, who, in 1718, permitted him to exercise it. He was a long Time charged with the Department of Paris, and during his Exile always held the Esteem of the Nation, which he acquired during his Ministry.
