Two 13 Year Old Ball Players Hurt As They Chase Fly Ball

Two pint-sized baseball players incurred injuries during a game Monday when they collided while chasing after a long, fly ball, police reported.

The youngsters were identified as Larry Byrd, 13, of 305 Roy St., S.W., and Eugene Battle, 13, of the same Roy Street address. Both were members of a Carrie Steele Pitts baseball team.

Byrd, playing left field, and Battle, holding down the shortstop slot, chased a fly ball hit by an opposing player. In their effort to reach the ball, they collided with one another.

Battle suffered lacerations to the top of his head, and Byrd had a laceration of the left side of his jaw. Both youngsters were rushed to Grady, however, their injuries were not believed to be serious.
