James S. MacKinnon Jr., of Juneau, headed a class of 14 who were awarded degrees in graduation exercises yesterday from the University of Alaska, receiving Cum Laude honors along with his degree as Bachelor of Science. Young MacKinnon also was honored by receiving the Ira J. Brumbach Memorial Award, given for outstanding character, manhood and service to the University.
MacKinnon also was chosen for the second year as one of the few students whose name will appear in the 1946-47 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. MacKinnon and a graduate of Juneau High School.
Young MacKinnon returned from Fairbanks this morning, along with a fellow student, Harvey Roberts of Philadelphia, who will spend the summer here as guest of the MacKinnons, returning to the University of Alaska next fall for his degree.
Mr. and Mrs. MacKinnon, who flew to Fairbanks for the graduation exercises, will return later this week by way of Anchorage.
