South-Atlanta School Observes American Education Week
In keeping with the national calendar of important events, the South Atlanta school successfully completed a series of activities the week of November 5-11. A number of visitors visited the school during the week. The students answered the roll call of the Junior Red Cross with a one hundred percent contribution of seven dollars and seventy-four cents. The P-TA and teachers asserted themselves in this march of events by contributing substantially to the Metropolitan Association of Negro Blind Wednesday morning. Senior assembly program in celebration of American Education Week was sponsored by Mrs. M. James. There was teacher and pupil participation on the program. Mrs. W. Davis gave the anthem of the association and eight children gave the platform of the association. The principal Mr. L. L. Harris introduced the guest speaker the Rev. A. S. Dickerson pastor of South Atlanta Methodist Church and principal of W. H. Grogan School. The subject was Educating All the People. He stressed the importance of education for the new task ahead. Mr. I. M. Wartman, music supervisor visiting in the school addressed the group extemporaneously. On Thursday a Girl Reserve Club was initiated and 35 girls became active members. Plans were made for our kick off in the Sixth War Loan Drive and our Victory panel sale. A culmination of the week's activities came with the observation of Armistice Day. All classes assembled promptly at 11 o'clock Friday to pay homage to yesterday's and today's war heroes and to offer united prayer for rapid and eternal world peace.
