The next Speakership of the Senate.
MR. EDITOR: I have seen in the columns of your paper, commendatory mention of the names of several gentlemen, members elect of the ensuing Senate, in connection with the Speakership of that body. It is an important position, and much depends on the qualifications of the person selected to fill it, as to the progress of the business of that body, and the pleasant intercourse of the members.
And without at all detracting from the merits of worthy members already brought to the notice of the public, you will please permit me to mention the name of Alfred P. Hall, Esq., the member elect from Benton county, as a man worthy and well qualified to discharge the duties of that important station.
Mr. Hall has served both in the House and the Senate with marked ability, and to the satisfaction of his constituents, is familiar with parliamentary law, courteous, firm, and impartial, and an able and zealous supporter of the American doctrine.
His elevation to the position above indicated, I doubt not would prove highly satisfactory to each individual member of that body, and to the entire American party of the State.
CARROLL.
