Full Text

Hague, Nov. 14. There is a Political Piece just published here, which very much engrosses the Attention of the Publick. It is translated from the English, as the Title Page bears, and is called, The imminent Danger of the Austrian Netherlands falling into the Hands of France, and the fatal Consequences thereof considered.

It has already appeared in the French, Dutch, and German Languages. It is looked upon as a seasonable Piece, and very proper to awaken the Attention of Europe at this Day. It is to be feared that the Author will prove but too true a Prophet, for the Netherlands, on the Preservation whereof, the Preservation of Great Britain and the United Provinces do immediately depend, seem to be at this Day in the utmost Hazard. The Owner, the Emperor, is at present in the greatest Want of Money, to enable him to carry on the War against the Turk, so that whoever bids most for the Netherlands, it's thought will have them. Spain, to whom they formerly belong'd, has laid out all her ready Specie on settling one of her Infants in Italy, and putting two Crowns upon his Head, and is still meditating something more for that young Prince, perhaps the Kingdom of Corsica, if she has not been too late in taking Possession. The States General are 50 Millions of our Money in Debt, and consequently cannot be a Purchaser, if they would; the same may be said of Great-Britain. France does not owe a Farthing, and her Coffers are full; so that the Maritime Powers have but to choose, either forthwith to lend a round Sum on the Silesian Mines, &c. or see the grand Monarch add these Countries to his Empire this Year, and (for the Consequence is almost unavoidable) Great Britain and Holland, or at least some Part of them the next.
