Indiana Man, Near Death, Has Services Performed In the Presence of Friends.
Gas City, Ind., May 14.--Elias B. Burns has heard the sermon for his own funeral preached. Mr. Burns, who is at the point of death, decided that he wanted to hear his funeral sermon, and he sent word to his minister, the Rev. Henry Schwalm, that if he was living at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon he wanted him to come to his home and preach the sermon. He said if he was not living the members of the family could make any arrangements they desired.
Forty friends and neighbors of the sick man were present. After songs and prayer the minister preached from the eighth chapter of Romans.
The sick man seemed satisfied with the sermon and seemed slightly stronger for a few hours. Then he suffered a relapse and became delirious. Mr. Burns is 88 years old.
