The enterprize of the English upon Martinique, from various accounts, it now incontestibly appears, is abandoned, with some loss on their side. The following particulars of the attack are the most authentic. A descent was effected and the town of St. Pierre was attempted by the English on one side and a small party of aristocrats on the other at the same time. The assailants were repulsed in both quarters and the English experienced a loss of about 400 men; the Admiral's ship also suffered some injury.
