THE federal, as well as republican, Statements received from New-Hampshire, concur in declaring JOHN LANGDON to be elected governor, in the room of Mr. Gilman, and it is probable that on enumerating all the votes, Mr. Langdon will appear to be elected by a great majority. It cannot, under these circumstances, be considered premature, to congratulate the people, not only of that state, but of the whole United States, on this event; which is one of the best evidences of the increasing triumphs of republican principle. We need not inform our readers that Mr. Langdon is one of the most distinguished republicans of the eastern states. They cannot have forgotten the firmness, which he manifested in the senate of the United States, in times of uncommon peril and alarm, and which evinced a perfect consistency with the revolutionary principles, for the maintenance of which he risked his all. Of seventeen states there are now fourteen over whose affairs republican legislatures, and thirteen over which republican governors preside. If we look back a few years, and contrast the present with the then posture of affairs, we shall be lost in astonishment at the magnitude and rapidity of the change. In the year 1800, there were only seven states in which the government was republican; and there are now fourteen. Can we, under these circumstances, so far as regards characteristic political principles, be said to be a divided people?
