Is August Schneider a living dead man? Attorneys for the Independent Order of Foresters, who are defending an action brought by Tina Butler, Schneider's divorced wife, claim he is. In 1898 Schneider, who was insured for $1,000 in the Foresters, mysteriously disappeared. After three years his wife secured a divorce and then married Butler.
After Schneider had been gone seven years his wife sold some property and the court assumed that Schneider was dead. On this presumption his ex-wife is suing for the insurance. The order resists on the ground that required proof of death has not been furnished.
