Full Text
The Deputy of the States of Flanders are assembled at Ghent, and have declared themselves INDEPENDENT.
They have further taken into consideration the mode of collecting duties, the safety of transits, &c. The victory at that place has had the most happy consequences for the patriotic cause; and the bravery displayed on that occasion has been a principal instrument of its more recent success. It has been as sudden as complete; for the surrender of Burges, Courtrai, Ostend, Nieuport, Tournay, Ypres, Mons, and Namur, has followed: a rapidity of conquest almost without parallel. The latter place was not taken without great slaughter on both sides.
