The Shasta Courier of May 27th makes the following mention of Blaisdell Brothers Troupe of Bell Ringers.
This company visited our place last week. The principal attraction of the troupe is a young girl about twelve years of age. We are well informed that these men hired this child from her brother, in the city of Baltimore, at the paltry sum of five dollars per week, in greenbacks. Further, that the child is entirely uneducated, not being able to read her name, or to read print, and that while in San Francisco, when these humbugs failed to draw, they rented the child out to the negro minstrels, at fifty dollars per week in gold. The people should see to it that this child is no longer permitted to continue in a troupe of men, without female associates, and good moral example and teachings, and the big able bodied boobies who are making a living off her talents, should be set to work to make their own living, instead of living on the profits of a child whose future is being clouded by such association.
