SOUTH-CAROLINA.

CHARLESTON, Sept. 11. The Legislature of the state of Georgia has made choice of nine commissioners, with discretionary powers, who are to be escorted by 1000 men, and to proceed immediately to the border of the Creek nation, there to call a congress of the Indians, and demand of them the perpetrators of the murders in the spring last; to give hostages for their future good behaviour, and to make due compensation for the expences the state has been, or will be at, in defending themselves against the irruptions and punishing the perfidy of the Indians. Should the commissioners not meet with ample satisfaction in these points, they are to deliver up their power to the military, and to retire.

To provide for the expences of this military appointment, the legislature has voted, that 20,000l. sterling in paper bills, be struck off as soon as possible, which is to be a lawful tender in all payments of debts due, or to be due: and this emission is to be secured by sixty mile square of land.

It is likewise said, that a commissioner is appointed to treat with the Chickasaws, and to form an alliance with that nation against the Creeks: and that Governor Servier has made an offer of assistance, with 1000 men to operate against the upper towns.
