DICKENS AGAIN
When Monica Dickens wrote her first excellent book a couple of years ago she proved herself worthy to follow in the footsteps of her distinguished forebear. Charles Dickens. Her new effort. "One Pair of Feet." further marks that fact and her own increasing stature as a writer and interpreter of our times.
"One Pair of Feet" (Harpers: $2.50) is the detailed and witty account of the year Miss Dickens spent as a hospital nurse in wartime England. She worked for long hours under conditions which were sometimes difficult. but she loved the job and she kept her sense of humor.
It is that humor which distinguishes the book, makes it human and much truer than many of the "hospital books" we have recently been reading.
Monica Dickens understands and appreciates people and writes about them with heart-warming gaiety.
