Poughkeepsie, April 1. 9 o'clock, P. M.
Gentlemen—Poughkeepsie is redeemed!— The canvass of our town has just been completed, and I am happy to inform you that the Independent Republican ticket is elected by a majority of One Hundred and Forty-Four!
We have had one of the most severe contests ever known in this place. The vassals of power brought out all their strength, but the friends of the people did their duty nobly. and the good cause is completely triumphant.
Poughkeepsie and old Dutchess are now safe on the side of the country.
In haste, yours, truly.
P. S.—The Jackson majority in this town has usually been one hundred and fifty.
