Full Text

Limerick, March 2. Last Tuesday Morning, about Two o'Clock, we had the most violent Storm of Wind that has been known in the Memory of the oldest Man here, attended with a high Tide, by which a Dutch Dogger, in one of the Docks at Mardyke, was beat almost to Pieces; three other Vessels and a Lighter were forced on the Custom-house Key, and a laden Dogger outward-bound, that lay at the Pool, was run ashore. An Ennis Boat, said to have £300 Worth of Groceries and other Goods for that Place, and a Turf Boat, were sunk at the Key; and all the Shipping and Boats in the Harbour damaged. Many Houses, Chimneys, and Windows, were blown down; and few or no Houses escaped being stripped. At Mardyke and the Keys several Feet of Water were in the Cellars, and in those in Key Lane; and we have melancholy Accounts of the Loss of Cattle of all Kinds, and the Damage done on the Banks and Low-lands on each Side the Shannon.
