PITTSBURGH Jan. 1.--It appears by accounts from Lexington, (Ky.) that the glorious news reported by Capt. Hite, of the success of Col. Campbell's detachment from Harrison's army against the Miamiawa towns, turned out to be a little different from what the flying express reported it, for that in consequence of the attack of the Indians, Col. C. had to make a precipitate retreat; and had requested succor of men and ammunition from Generals Harrison and Winchester, the Indians being in pursuit of them.

The army under Winchester was lying within 9 miles of Fort Defiance [on the Miami] not being able to proceed for want of provisions; the last accounts stating that the soldiers had not received a single ration for seven days.
