[Communicated for the Federal Gazette.]
Natchitoches, June 13.
Mr. Shaler went to Nacogdoches to join gen. Toledo, who was still at Natchitoches, waiting the arrival of Mr. Shaler. A few days after his arrival there, a dispatch was received from Bernardo stating that the enemy had assembled to the number of 2000 and were marching towards San Antonio, and were then (the 18th ult.) within 50 miles of that capital, requesting reinforcements of Indians, ordering at the same time Toledo to retire on the ground of his being a partizan of Miranda's, a Spanish agent under the garb of a Republican, and of having borne arms two years ago against the Republican cause.
Mr. Shaler, to whom Toledo came introduced, determined to go no farther without him, and actually returned with Toledo and is now at this place.
We are waiting with great anxiety to learn the result of certain operations, the object of which is the arrest of Bernardo and the substitution of Toledo in his place, a change that would produce order and confidence in lieu of confusion and distrust.
June 15.
We received yesterday very important news from St. Antonio. The Junta of that place tired with the imbecility & tyranny of Bernardo's government, have sent a deputation to this place to request Toledo to go on and take the command of the army and conduct the revolution in that quarter. Toledo will start in ten or twelve days.
