Admiralty Office, March 12. His Majesty's Ship the Chester, Capt. Geary, and the Sunderland, Capt. Brett, being on a Cruize in the Soundings, on the 20th of last Month, at about half an Hour past Ten o'Clock in the Morning, they saw a Sail to which they gave Chase; at Six in the Evening, her Main-top-mast going by the Board, she struck her Colours. She proved to be a French Man of War of 20 Guns, and 134 Men, besides the Superintendent of Mississippi, with his Wife and Family, two Merchants, and some French Land Officers, who were Passengers, bound from Mississippi to Rochfort. She had 2400 Pieces of Eight, Some Indigo, Hides, Logwood and Tobacco on Board.
