19,878 X Marks on Democratic
Club Rolls in Nineteen-Eighteen
LET SOUTH CAROLINA SECEDE FROM ILLITERACY BY HAVING
A "HIS-X-MARK"-LESS CLUB ROLL
IN 1920.

Wanted-19,878 men unwilling to register with a mark in
1920.

Wanted-19,878 men and women, bankers, preachers, teachers,
farmers, committeemen, and public officers, to teach these 19878
voters to sign their names-if no more. It means often only a
suggestion; at most only a few hours of service.

Remuneration--Your proud and glorious state cleansed of a
blot and removed from the sneers of alien statisticians; the
poignant gratitude of free men who are no longer 'made to feel
ashamed when asked to sign their names."
