PEACE
Between the TURKS and RUSSIANS.

August 5. The assurances given the public for some time past, that a GENERAL PEACE between all the Belligerent Powers was on the point of being concluded, is at length confirmed from unquestionable authority, and there only waits the arrival of the next Messenger from Petersburg to have this news confirmed in the GAZETTE, and to inform us precisely of the articles of treaty between Russia, Austria and the Porte.

The Empress of Russia has concluded the negotiations that were set on foot by the allied Powers with success, and we must do her the justice to say, that she has discovered a spirit suitable to the dignity of her high station in every part of her conduct. Her Imperial Majesty is to retain Oczakow and the districts around it as far as the Dnieper, and the Emperor is to have all the districts on his side the river Bug, which is to serve as a boundary between him and the Turks.

Such are the most material points on which the long negociation at the court of Petersburg has been concluded. It seems doubtful whether the King of Prussia is to receive any recompence, in money, for the expences he has incurred by keeping up an armament, but this will very soon be known.

The whole of the Prussian Army has been disbanded by an order of Council signed by Count Schulenburg—and addressed to the President of the War Office, excepting 20,000 men, who are to remain on a field establishment until such time as all the troops of the Belligerent Powers are withdrawn, and sent to their respective homes. It is remarkable that these 20,000 troops are chosen from the army in the neighbourhood of Dantzig, where they are to remain. It appears to us, that the King of Prussia still looks forward to the possession of this town, and we should not be surprised if it was connived at by Russia and Austria. Probably the time is not far distant, when the Prussian Eagle will be seen flying on the walls of Dantzig.

It appears likewise that the King of Prussia has negociated some other matters with the Emperor, in the course of his late communications with the latter. We are assured that the principalities in Franconia, formerly belonging to Brandenburg, are to be annexed to it, and that the Emperor has promised that he will not oppose the measure.
