The March meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary, East Cleveland Unit No. 163, was held March 6th at the Post Home. Since March is designated as Community Service month by the American Legion Auxiliary, the guest speaker was Miss Mary Loomis, East Cleveland Welfare Director, who explained the work of this department.
In connection with community service, members reported 782 hours given to Red Cross, various hospitals, U.S.O., Polio, and other drives. The Unit has also contributed generously to the collection for glasses for the "Eyes for the Needy" and large amounts of white materials for cancer pads. It has also helped out financially in several family crises brought to their attention.
A nominating committee was elected consisting of Mrs. Paul Gebhart, Mrs. Robert B. Owen, Mrs. J. Fred Kramer, Mrs. Henry Valentin and Mrs. J. E. Rowlands, with Mrs. J. S. Shroyer and Mrs. Clyde Davidson, alternates.
