With three games remaining in the season, the basketball teams of the South Fulton High School, East Point, are rallying to complete the 1955 year in a blaze of glory. Slated this week are games Thursday night with tough outfits from Dalton, and, on Saturday night the school will be host to a sub-tournament for Class competition.
With eight games posted on the books, Coach E. M Hunter's Lions have racked up an impressive 8-1 standing, losing only to Dalton 47 to 50 in overtime. As a team the Lions have averaged 57 points for the 8 games allowing 36 points average for opponents. Sharp shooting Eddie McMichael has posted 81 points for the season or 10 points per game. Also in the top five are General Brown with 74 points for the season, Robert Jackson with 64, "Deadly Weapon" Garrett with 57 and Willie Austin with 53.
Although having a season's standing to date of .500, the girls, under tutelage of Coach A. M. Nelson have high hopes of moving ahead. Outpointed by opponents 193 to 173 for the eight-games total the contests have been close. Captain Veleta Sims, with her uncanny left hook, has contributed 86 of her team's points. Other ranking scorers have been Dorothy McKisic with 26 points and Velma Storey with 22 points.
The Saturday tournament is slated to begin at six o'clock.
