A Young Philanthropist.—The following letter was recently addressed to the mayor of New Orleans, and speaks pleasantly enough for itself:

Steubenville, Ohio, Sept. 7, 1853.

DEAR SIR: My little daughter, Alice, seven years old, hearing me read of the New Orleans suffering, on going to bed, prayed "the Lord would keep sickness from New Orleans." The next day she inquired if she might send the contents of her money box. It was duly broken open, and displayed twenty-six cents in copper and three cents in silver. As the act was voluntary, I said I would make the sum of five dollars for her. She asked the Irish servant girl and man what they would give. Each contributed one dollar. Please appropriate.

And oblige your humble servant,

J. S.
