Full Text
The Next Presidency—We have our personal preference. We should prefer Henry Clay to any other man in America. But because we prefer him, it is no reason why we should not yield that preference to the force of circumstances. We believe Gen Harrison to be honest, faithful and competent, and we believe him, moreover, to be popular. We therefore now speak out for him. But we do it with perfect willingness to acquiesce in the nomination of any other Republican statesman, who may be thought worthy of that honor by the opposition party.—Alex. Gaz.
