Full Text

From London Papers received at the Office of the Publick Ledger, by the Ship Georgiana, Capt. Chamberlain.

London, Oct. 27.

Not only American papers reached town on Friday, with the news and speculations of the native politicians, to the 15th ult.; but a messenger, also, from the British Envoy arrived, as is supposed by the Gleaner packet, bringing dispatches to government, and private letters from Philadelphia to the 20th: yet, through these various channels, nothing of any great importance has transpired.

A letter of the date just specified was received by a mercantile house of respectability in the City. The only intelligence it furnished related to a further decrease in the exchange.

The papers indicate troubles on the Western frontiers, from the animosity of the Indian tribes; and this animosity we are accused of having excited or inflamed. Whether people connected with the British station in that remote quarter may not personally and individually, in their intercourse with these barbarians, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the conduct of the Americans, or their government, we are not able to say: but, that any one should have received instructions from home to this effect it we apprehend, wholly incredible.
