Full Text

London, Jan. 4--The American Captain who saved the lives of part of the crew of the Ester. The Lord Mayor has received several communications from persons of rank and fortune, among the rest from Sir Francis Burdett and his daughter, on the subject of preparing a subscription for a memorial to Captain Bowel, the American commander of the Ann Eliza, who so gallantly and humanely exerted himself to save the lives of the eight poor seamen, part of the crew of the Ester, lost on her voyage to England from Nova Scotia, six or seven weeks ago. We have every reason to suppose a very substantial testimonial of the feelings of the people of London will soon be proposed, to be presented to the acceptance of the American commander. The two American seamen, too, who swam to the wreck amid the fury of the element, with ropes, will not be forgotten.--London Globe.
