Full Text

In the communication over VERITAS & HISTORIA, published in your last paper, I do not find any satisfactory explanation of the statements in the Rev. Mr. Burt's Address, to which I alluded in the Register of the 27th ultimo. The writer has neither named the "many towns," said to have had churches and ministers, one hundred and fifty years ago; nor designated the particular town said to have had a church and minister, a century and a half since. He has indeed mentioned three places, viz. Dover neck, Newcastle, and the Isle of Shoals, as having preaching, at, or before the period alluded to, but he brings forward no evidence to prove that there existed churches in those places at that time. If he is in possession of such evidence, he will much oblige the public and ANTQ. by communicating it, together with the periods these churches were organized, and the names of the first ministers who were inducted into office over them. My object in adverting to the statements in the address, did not proceed from feelings hostile to the spirit and tendency of it, both which I highly approve, but merely to correct what I supposed to be errors, which, coming from such high authority, would be regarded by the public as matters of sober TRUTH and HISTORY.

Main Argument

the writer challenges the lack of evidence for claims in rev. mr. burt's address about early churches and ministers in new hampshire towns 150 years ago, requesting specific details on organization periods and first ministers for dover neck, newcastle, and isle of shoals to correct potential historical inaccuracies.
