Crash in Training Flight Causes Death, Destruction of 11 Planes

TOKYO, June 13—(AP)—Two American airmen were killed and three others were injured today in training flight crashes over Misawa Air Base in northern Honshu.

Fourteen planes were destroyed or damaged in the mishap.

The crashes started when two F-51s returning from a mission plunged into a formation of four other F-51's over Misawa.

One fighter plunged directly downward onto the field, killing the pilot and setting fire to 11 other planes parked on the field. Explosions from the gasoline tanks spread the flames.

Another fighter dived into the ground a short distance from the field, killing the pilot. A third fighter made a forced landing but the pilot was unhurt.
