Full Text

Replying to the Charleston Free Press the Spirit of Jefferson, of the same town, says: Whether or not Judge Hoge has "in Jefferson to-day more friends desirous of seeing him returned to Congress than he has before his first nomination," the Free Press, we opine, will find will be decided emphatically in the negative by a solid delegation from this county in the next Democratic Congressional Convention for the Hon. Daniel B. Lucas—a Democrat who has never stood back when there was a call to work for his party, and who, in the dark hours of Radical misrule, hesitated not to beard the lion in his den, and has since never failed, in a single campaign, to do Trojan work in the cause of his party, and for the advancement of the interests of his people and his State. If it be true that "the laborer is worthy of his hire," surely our able countryman should receive some consideration at the hands of his party, and especially the solid and hearty support of the people of his own county.
