Natchez Junior College Approved Teacher Training Institution
Natchez, Miss., May 18 - For a long time the Board of Trustees of Natchez Junior College has worked diligently to get Natchez College approved for Teacher Education. This goal has been uppermost in the minds of the Baptist leaders for some time. Last summer the Board of Trustees gave the approval of a program outlined by President J. R. Buck designed to elevate the status of the college. Rev. H. H. Humes, chairman of the Board of Trustees, made it clear to the new administration that the Board was interested in having all departments of Natchez College fully accredited by the State Department of Education.

A program of improvement, both physical and curricular was begun under the new administration.

When the president felt that the school was ready for a rigid inspection, he invited a committee from the State Department of Education to visit the college and inspect its facilities and curricular offerings. A committee headed by Mr. James T. Coleman, Supervisor of Teacher Education and Certification of the State Department of Education, visited Natchez College on the morning of March 24, 1953, for the purpose of evaluating Natchez Junior College for approval to prepare elementary teachers.

On April 7, 1953, President J. R. Buck was notified by Mr. James T. Coleman that the State Department of Education had fully approved Natchez Junior College as a Teacher Training Institution. The president of the institution takes this means of expressing his gratitude to all persons who contributed toward the elevation of the status of the school.
