It is very important to a clear understanding of the situation of parties in New Jersey, to state facts, and only facts; and these, in such a manner as all can and will comprehend them. It is generally understood that in many of the counties, railroads, canal questions, &c. &c. obliterated all political distinctions; and as an instance, we mention that in Essex where there is a Clay majority of probably 1500, one Jackson man has been elected. We readily admit that a majority, a small one indeed of Jacksonians, are elected to the Legislature; but suppose the Legislature had been chosen as the members of Congress are to be in December, by a general ticket, not a Jackson man would have succeeded, as will be seen by the following returns.
